My Inner Wanderlust
I designed My Inner Wanderlust cowl using lace weight yarn because it is easy to take with you, it doesn’t take much space in your handbag, and it lasts forever.
You can make this in either a short or long version, and it is easy to customize to your own desire. It starts with a simple cast-on and ends with a whimsical picot bind-off.
The beauty of this pattern is that once you get the hang of the easy lace repeats, the stitches will be flying off your needles, but the finished piece looks intricate and complicated. You will get a relaxed, meditative feel while knitting the repeating pattern. Feel the comfort of knitting something light and airy, while creating something beautiful.
Materials
Needle: US 4 / 3.5 mm, 32” / 80 cm circular needle or size needed to obtain correct gauge.
Yarns Used: approximately 842 / 875 yds, 770 / 800 m “DROPS” Lace, in the color 7120, 70% Alpaca, 30% Silk, 50 g = 400 m / 437 yds per ball. 2 balls used.
Gauge: 21 sts / 36 rounds = 4” / 10 cm in lace pattern, after blocking.
Final Measurements: circumference 52” / 132 cm. Width 25” / 64 cm including the picot.
Notions: Stitch markers, tapestry needle.
I am a tight knitter, so the yarn amounts may vary for a looser knitter. It is important to make sure you get gauge before starting, so you don’t run out of yarn. (You will need about 10-12 grams for the last repeat and the picot bind-off.) Or consider buying a little more yarn than suggested.
My Inner Wanderlust cowl is very versatile. You can wear it just hanging long or wrap it around your neck. It makes a nice casual look over a simple shirt, while doing errands or for a coffee date. Or wear it over a dress for a more formal occasion…possibly a simple black dress and heels for a special dinner. It’s perfect to wear long under a jacket when the weather is chilly, as well, or pull it over your head when it turns cold and windy. It’s versatility is boundless.
As with all my designs, I want you to have a relaxed, meditative experience while enjoying the process of creating something beautiful.
