My Kitchen Garden
This design builds on the motifs from “In an English Garden”, squared off, adjusted and with extra rounds added to create different sized modules, or expanded much further into a cosy lap-sized blanket. It reminds me of sunny days tending the crops on my allotment, and several (imaginative) people have said they can see different vegetables among leaves and flowers, which helped me choose the name!
Materials needed:
11 x 100 g balls in 9 colours:
Sugarsnap x 2
Fir x 1
Copper x 1
Spice x 1
Cream x 2
Mocha x 1
Stone x 1
Gold x 1
Walnut x 1
These are all Stylecraft Special DK except Sugarsnap (Stylecraft Bellissima) and Fir (Deramores Studio DK, available from Lovecrafts). If you wish to use all SSDK, Apple or Meadow may be substituted for Sugarsnap, and Kelly Green or Khaki for Fir - all look good but will not be exactly the same as in the version shown here. Apple and Kelly Green would be bright; Meadow and Khaki more subdued.
Crochet hooks: size 4.00 mm and 4.50 mm; Tapestry needle; Stitch markers.
The pattern comprises a 30-page main file, plus a separate 3-page printable appendix with basic information for reference and colour placement charts for the edging squares, courtesy of Norah. It is clearly written using US terms with plenty of tips and explanations for any tricky parts, and is illustrated throughout with round-by-round photographs. Suitable for intermediate crocheters or adventurous beginners.
Special thanks to my brilliant, patient testers - Norah, Lara, Abbi, Liza, Ruth and my craft-group-at-home friend Kate.
The first 19 rows of this pattern forming a 9.5” (DK) or 12” (Aran/Worsted) square are available under the name Isobel Grace - FREE Ravelry download here.
