THIS KNITTING PATTERN IS MADE-TO-MEASURE, NOT GRADED!
So you start with a gauge swatch and from this the number of stitches/rows for your sweater are calculated.
You can calculate this yourself with simple calculations or use an Excel sheet, where you only have to enter a few measurements and the rest will be calculated automatically.

The sweater is worked top-down. Everything - except the distressed shoulder - is worked with both yarns (thin and thick) held together.
After you have calculated all the measurements you start flat with the back panel down to the height of the armhole. Then you work the upper front panel flat directly onto it.
Below the armhole you then continue working in rounds.
The sleeves are knitted top-down onto the finished body.
This means nothing needs to be sewn together.

The pattern includes a pdf (cm- and inch-version) with a step-by-step tutorial with photos, a link to download the Excel sheet and a lookbook-pdf for ideas and details of the yarn that I and the testers used.

Required skills: Advanced beginner to intermediate

Language: English

What you need:

  • circular needle approximately size 8,0 mm, 80 cm
  • double pointed needles or circular needle approximately size 8,0 mm, 40-50 cm or longer and magic loop method
  • optional: needles for body and sleeves also 1.0 mm smaller for ribbing
  • thin yarn (lace, fingering or sport, e.g. mohair) for the whole sweater
  • thick yarn (bulky or super bulky) for your chosen needle size for the whole sweater except the ‘distressed’ shoulder (you can also hold several thinner yarns together to create a thick yarn)
  • additional cable or scrap yarn for half body circumference
  • additional cable or scrap yarn for quarter body circumference
  • stitch markers
  • measuring tape
  • what you always need: scissors, tapestry needle

Note:
Because the measurements for the sweater are calculated individually using a gauge swatch, you can use almost any needle size. However, for the distressed effect of the shoulder, I would not recommend a needle size significantly smaller than 8,0 mm. A larger needle size creates an even more mesh effect.

Stitches you need to know and are not explained in detail in the pattern:

  • cast-on (I made a long tail cast-on)
  • pick up stitches
  • bind-off (I recommend Italian bind-off)
  • knit
  • purl
  • k2tog (decrease: knit 2 stitches together)
  • p2tog (decrease: purl 2 stitches together)
  • m1r (increase: make one right)
  • m1l (increase: make one left)
  • m1lp (increase: make one left purlwise)
