I “unvented” this pattern when I found I could actually knit in the round and avoid purling. It is based on the Pi R Round shawl I read about in Elizabeth Zimmermann’s books where each increase round doubles the number of stitches so the resulting number of plain knit rounds increases in relation to keep the circle flat. Each Y/O round results in a row of holes.

Feel free to add rounds of Y/O, K2tog – or lacy patterns in the plain knit rounds if you wish. I usually keep them in plain stockinette stitch.

Needle size and gauge are not important - use the needle size you prefer, anywhere from 4 - 8 US.

I like to make these as gifts for friends or mothers-to-be. I give them along with a bar of soap or bottle of baby wash. One new mom declared it was too pretty to use as a wash cloth and instead used it as a doily under the lamp on the nursery table. It matched her room colors!

This is the first pattern I have written out so please let me know if there are any questions or problems and I’ll see what I can do. And let me know how you like it!
