All of our babies are precious and they need a hat when it is cold outside! This colorful and warm hat can easily be knit up in one evening. To make a smaller or bigger size add or subtract 6 stitches.

This is a stranded colorwork hat knit in the round with 2 colors. The hat is knit bottom up. The 2X2 ribbing allows for stretch and comfort. The 3 row and 6 row motifs are easy and are surrounded by solid colors to emphasize the motif. The crown is decreased using SSK and K2tog decreases and finished using Kitchener stitch. The Kitchener stitch is optional. Threading a needle with yarn and running it through the last few stitches will work as well. Links for videos demonstrating most of the techniques used in this pattern are provided on the downloadable pattern.

Difficulty level: advanced beginner to intermediate

Skills needed: knit, purl, cast on, bind off, join in the round, knitting in the round, ribbing, stranded colorwork using 2 colors, SSK and k2tog decreases, Kitchener stitch (optional), making a pompom (optional), reading a chart

This hat is dedicated to the women, their children, and the paid and unpaid workers of the Family Life Center of West Michigan ( familylifecenterhome.org). This is an organization that provides a program and residence for pregnant homeless women. They also provide free baby supplies such as diapers, wipes, and clothing to parents in need in the community.

Errata: On row 5 the decrease should read 36 stitches remain, knit 1 row, decrease row 7 as written 24 stitches remain, knit 1 row , decrease row 9 12 stitches remain.
