This mushroom is a wonderful project for practicing sculptural knitting. It can be made in any yarn but wool is best for structure. You may want to felt your mushroom a little before stuffing it. I did not felt mine. Instead of felting, I stitched the cap to the stem after I stuffed it (using the cap color) with random stitches pulling parts of the cap closer to the stem. This makes the form look more natural. The finishing stitches are hidden beneath the ring. If you did not make the ring, you can bury your stitches by securing them on the cap and then pulling your thread through the stuffing and cutting it short so it will be pulled into the form. Mistakes in this project just make it better!

Yarn A (cap): Brooklyn Tweed Shelter (American Targhee-Columbia Wool, 140 yards/50 g) in color Camper: 1 skein or approx 50 yards.
Yarn B (cap edge and gills): Brooklyn Tweed Shelter in color Truffle Hunt: 1 skein or approx 20 yards.
Yarn C: (gills, stem, ring and mycelium) La Bien Aimee Boucle (100% merino, 218 yards/50 g) in color Dusk: 1 skein or approx 50 yards (held double)
Yarn D (stem): Brooklyn Tweed Shelter in color Woodsmoke: 1 skein or approx 50 yards.

Needles:
Set of five 4.5 mm/US 7 double pointed needles or size needed to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions and materials:
Tapestry needle, wool stuffing and anything on hand for stuffing.

Gauge: 18 sts x 24 rounds = 10 cm/4 inches over stockinette st on 4.5 mm/US 7 needles before blocking.
