Mykerö
Mykerö mittens are inspired by the Woolly Burdock (Arctium tomentosum) plants. They feature a Bavarian style cable with bead accents.
The mittens are knit cuff-up and have a gusset thumb and a cable pattern on the back-of-hand. Cable pattern is charted only. It will be helpful if you are already familiar with this type of mitten construction beforehand: the pattern provides all basic information but it is not as detailed as some beginner-oriented patterns are.
Skills needed: knitting in the round, gusset thumb, twisted stitches, cables, reading a cable chart, placing beads.
Sizes: S ( 18 cm/ 7’’), M ( 20 cm/ 8’’) hand circumference.
Needles: 2.75 mm dpns.
Notions:
- cable needle
- 18 6/0 seed beads (8/0 with a large hole works as well)
- 1.00 mm crochet hook (or size needed to go through beads)
- scrap yarn for thumb
Yarn substitution: Wollmeise Twin knits up as a heavy fingering weight, so unless you want size XS, most fingering weight yarns will be too thin. Look for similar yardage in fingering or sport weight.
Notes:
- Cables are charted only.
- For best results you will need to place the beads as you go, not string them up beforehand.
Feel free to use the cable pattern for your own projects as well but please link back to this pattern if you do.
