MYRTILLUS
The European blueberry, or bilberry, is one of the joys of Swedish forests. In this cardigan, the ­blueberries come to life in a tactile pattern ­combining knitting and simple embroidery.

The cardigan is knit bottom up, where the shrubs are knit using stranded ­knitting. Once the knitting is done, the berries are ­embroidered using French knots. It’s a very clever way to create adorable little berries that will make kids (and grown-up kids!) excited to wear the cardigan.

This cardigan is knitted seamlessly in the round. ­Pattern and decreases are worked from chart. The round ­begins and ends at the front of the body. When one skein ends, don’t tie the new skein on – join ends by felting them together. This will give you less ends to weave in.

Measurements are of finished cardigan, which is meant to be worn with a few cm of positive ease.

18 stitches, 24 rows = 10 x 10 cm measured on ­stockinette stitch ­using 4.5 mm needles. Check gauge, adjust needle size if needed.
