Mystery scarf 23
The pattern was originally published as a mystery pattern, where participants received 23 clues throughout 2023.
(Do you need a 2-meter-long colourwork scarf? Maybe not, but it’s a fun knit!)
Note that VAT will be added for customers in the EU and Norway.
The scarf is worked in the round, starting with a garter stitch edging. If you’re unsure about a long scarf, you can start with a provisional cast on, and then stop after a while and graft your work together to make a cowl.
The clues are all charted. You can work the scarf all in stocking stitch, for a smooth surface, but some charts have an option with a little texture. Sometimes the charts have more than two colours in one round, but there is always an option to use only two colours per round. ,
You work in the round, creating a long tube, so you will have a double layer of fabric. Therefore, choose a yarn that is not too thick. I suggest fingering or light fingering. You can make a narrow scarf with 72 stitches or a wide one with 144 stitches. Or somewhere in between, with 96 or 120 stitches. With 120 stitches, and the suggested gauge of 24 stitches to 10 cm, the scarf is 25 cm wide. Exact gauge is not crucial, but will of course affect size, drape and thickness of the scarf.
The scarf is made to use up your scraps of fingering yarn, For the narrow size you need appr. 1250 meters, for the widest size 2500 meters, and for the two sizes in between, you need 1700 and 2100 meters.
