This pattern is for a mosaic crochet square that can be used in other types of projects, such as blankets, pillows, satchel bags, table mats, etc.

Any yarn or hook will work, depending on the desired size of the finished square. I used yarn weight of 4 with a 5.5 hook, which creates a square of 13.5” x 13”.

You can use any color yarn you like - one for the background and a variety of colors for the mermaid, fish, seaweed & shells. I used a variegated yarn for the background.

This is a great way to use up scraps! For the project in the photo, you will need around 2 oz of the background color, and then approximately a quarter to a half oz of each color of worsted weight/aran (wt 4) type of yarn.

For the shells you will need a small amount of white (1-2 yards?) & a size 4mm hook.
