This is a typical stranded hat pattern with a four sided decrease top.
Large assymetrical pattern is easily knit and followed with a magnet board. See picture on pattern page here on Ravelry. I do have a free pattern in Ravelry with lots of tips for stranding and catching floats.
It is called Cap for Learning Stranded Knitting. It also has tips for long floats.
Bottom band is trimmed with Kihnu Vits braid. Easily done and complete instruction in pattern. I also give link to You-tube instruction for this Estonian trim.
The front may have letters and year but not necessary. Graphs
included to work from and place letters. I will soon have a pattern for
a man’s/ or womans pullover with Henly neck using these and more mythical animals
