Naia sockor are ideal as dress socks during the cold winter months. Knit with 2.5 mm needles and a ruffle at the cuff, they’re especially perfect for more festive occasions.
Naia means “wave” or “sea,” which is reflected in the sock design, as the ruffle looks a bit like waves. Naia sockor are knitted from toe to cuff. You start by casting on stitches using Judy’s Magic Cast-On, then knit in the round, increasing to shape the toe. Once you have the right number of stitches, you continue knitting in the round, making a few increases at the sides where the foot rises. Then, you work the heel using short rows. After the heel, you make some decreases to help the cuff fit better. The ruffle is knitted separately, from the bottom up, and then attached to the top of the sock, where it is knitted together before finishing with the final edge.
