Nain is a top-down raglan with a cowl neck and A-line shaping in the body. The cuffs and hem are split and finished with an edging formed by a cable that continues from the sleeve and side seams.

I was reading a news article which led me look up some history of Nain (Labrador), which in turn led me to a photo of anorthosite rock from the Nain area. The labradorescence in that rock was so beautiful! That image led to this sweater and colours. And a happenstance of serendipity: unbeknownst to me at the time, the woman behind Wild Atlantic Yarns used to be a geologist!

If using sample yarn, you will need 3 (4, 4, 4) (4, 5, 5) (5, 6, 6) (7, 7) skeins of MC and 1 skein of CC; you will need to alternate skeins for an even colour distribution since this is hand-dyed yarn.

Gauge

27 sts and 37 rnds to 10cm / 4” in stockinette stitch with size A needles after blocking (or needle size required to match gauge).

Needles and Notions

Gauge was achieved with the following needle sizes. To work the pattern as written, you must swatch and use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking.

Size A: 2.75mm (US 2) for stockinette stitch and cable hem and cuffs.

Size B: 3mm (US 2.5) for stranded colourwork in Window Stitch bands

Note: if you have fewer than 37 rows in 10cm / 4” for your row gauge (e.g., if your row gauge is 36 rows or less), then I recommend using a needle one size smaller than size A for working the attached cable hem and cuffs.

You will also need: small circumference cable needle, stitch markers, stitch holders, interchangeable cables, or scrap yarn to hold stitches.
