Nakiska Cardigan
This cabled, top-down raglan came about as a challenge to myself to design and knit a cardigan during the 2018 Ravellenics Games, which ran during the 2018 Winter Olympics. I was fortunate enough to be living in Calgary for the 1988 Games, and Nakiska is where the alpine events were held. These cables remind me of the path the skiiers take down the mountain. The cables are mirrored on the back, sleeves, and at the side seams. There is no finishing, as the button band is integrated as you work the cardigan fronts.
Finished Size:
Chest 32(36, 40, 44, 48, 52) inches, sleeve circumference 12.75(13.75, 14.5, 16.25, 17, 17.75) inches, length 14(14.5, 15, 16, 16.5, 17)”
Yarn: Dragonfly Fibers Traveler (100% Superwash Merino wool, 280 yards/113g), 4(4, 5, 5, 6, 6) skeins. Sample worked in Dragonberry.
Needles:
US #4/3.25mm circular needle, 32 inches or longer (larger sizes may prefer a longer needle).
Set of US #4/3.25mm double pointed needles or preferred method for small circumference knitting in the round.
Or size to make gauge
Notions:
Stitch markers (six of one color, six of another)
Waste yarn or stitch holders
Darning needle
1/2” buttons – wait until garment is complete to ensure proper size
Gauge: 20 stitches/28 rows per 4” in stockinette stitch, worked flat, on larger needles. Ensure you use a correct needle size to make gauge in the round as well. Knitting in the round sometimes means you’re knitting more tightly; you may need to go up a needle size to make sure you stay at the correct gauge.
