Nana's Gone Cowl
My Nana passed away at the age of 94 on April 6, 2016. She spent much of her life knitting. She was prone to just designing something on her own. She knit the dress she wore when my parents got married. When she stopped knitting, I inherited her supplies and extra yarn. Knitting and designing patterns is a bond we shared for nearly 15 years.
To help me deal with the grief, I designed this easy cowl to honor her. This is a simple welting pattern knit in the round. You hold 2 strands of yarn together to get bulk.
In Judaism, we mourn the dead, typically just parents, for a whole year. In honor of that year, I am making this pattern free until March 25. The date she died on the Jewish calendar is 27th of Adar II (the extra month of the Jewish leap year). In Judaism, this is the date we recognize her yahrzeit (the anniversary of her death). With the leap year, you go with the date in the month of Adar (in leap years, there are Adar I and Adar II). I know, confusing. The point is, on the anniversary of her death, after the first year, I will make this project free.
