Naniboujou Toboggan Mittens
The Naniboujou Mittens were inspired by the fantastic dining room in Naniboujou Lodge and Restaurant on Minnesota’s beautiful North Shore of Lake Superior. Just east of Grand Marais, the lodge was built at the end of the Roaring 20s to be a luxurious retreat club with founding members like Babe Ruth and Jack Dempsey. When the stock market
crashed in October 1929 many of the grandiose plans crashed as well, but the main lodge with its gorgeous dining room were nearly finished.
This dining room is a show-stopping example of color and artistic creation. Inspired by Cree Indian designs, painter Antoine Gouffe combined a multitude of clear, vibrant colors to create the modern murals on the walls and ceiling. Despite multiple owners and some years when the building sat vacant, the dining room has not been touched up or repainted since.
Knit this beautiful set of Toboggan Mittens in the clear hues of Cascade 220 yarn. It is an easily accessible yarn which makes warm and sturdy knits. These stranded mittens are knitted from the cuff to the tip. Look for the matching Naniboujou Toboggan Hat or the finer gauge Naniboujou Tam and Mittens in the full collection.
