I began these socks on a very long flight, en route from LAX to Narita International Airport in Tokyo. The original pair was a gift for my dad, for whom simplicity is a highly desirable trait in knitted socks. (This seems to be a common request for men’s socks, in my experience.) The garter and slipped stitches make these a bit more visually interesting, as well as more interesting to the knitter, than just another pair of ribbed socks.

This pattern is written as cuff down with heel flap construction using double-pointed needles.
