This hat is a quick winter knit that uses a couple of balls of stash yarn, and you can even embellish it with those oddments you can’t quite bear to part with!

Because the chart is quite large, this hat has been graded using a combination of yarn weights and chart options. Note that the snowflake effect at the top of the hat is seen on the adult patterns in DK and aran weight yarn only.

Choose a size with a circumference approximately 5cm (2in) less than your head circumference. This hat is very stretchy so it should still fit nicely if you’re a little outside these measurements either way.

Yarn
This pattern is designed to use up stash yarn.
The toddler and child sizes are worked in DK-weight yarn.
For an adult-sized hat, you can choose from chunky, aran/worsted or DK-weight yarn - just follow the instructions for your chosen yarn weight!
Whichever of these yarn weights you use, you should need less than 100g of your main colour and less than 50g of your contrast colour.

As well as your main colour and contrast colour yarns, if you would like to add duplicate stitch ‘baubles’ (shown in the pastel sample) you will also need a selection of different coloured oddments of yarn.
You will need 70 (84, 70, 96, 112) strands, each approximately 15 to 20cm (6 to 8in) long.
I used a variety of DK-weight stash yarns for this. Remember to save some of your oddments to use in your pompom!
I like to use pure wool, non-superwash yarns for stranded colourwork as they make for a lovely even fabric.
