Meet our Narwhal. They’re cute, cuddly and very lovable. This pattern supplies directions for making our Narwhal. Knitting just the body and fin sections of this pattern will allow you to create a friendly whale.

These patterns are suitable for advanced beginner knitters and assumes an understanding of basic stitches and standard knitting terms. Our Narwhal is knit flat and sewn together using a mattress stitch.

If you’re new to knitting stuffed friends, or are uncomfortable winging it without strict guidelines (that’s OK, we all need good directions sometimes to help us out) you will need approximately 40 m of medium weight yarn for the body and fins and 4 m of an alternate coloured yarn for the tusk of the Narwhal. With this yarn, use 4 mm (US size 6) needles. You will also need a small amount of yarn for embroidering the eyes, stuffing (we use ecofil or wool) and a tapestry needle to sew your pattern together. This will let you create a Narwhal that’s approximately 22 cm (8.5 inches) in length.

The beauty of knitting stuffed friends is that this pattern can be knit in any size yarn with accompanying needles. Generally we find using a size or two smaller needles than required by the yarn allows for the tightness needed when you’re stuffing your finished product.
