I originally designed Nasha as a one-skein fingering weight shawl in 2020. It received a lot of attention and love upon its release, for which I am very grateful.

Just like knitting itself, pattern-writing is a craft full of choices and possibilities, and a designer’s writing style can evolve over time. I especially believe that knitters’ feedback is one of the most valuable tool that helps shape a designer’s writing.

PATTERN FEATURES (New Version)
♡The pattern incorporates two-stitch i-cord edging and an i-cord bind-off.
♡A row tracker (tracks WS rows only) is provided as a separate pdf.
♡Mirrored decreases are incorporated on MESH rows.
♡Double yarn overs are used in MESH rows to create larger holes.
♡Written as well as charted instructions are provided for FLOWER LACE.
♡The pattern is worked at a tighter gauge than the earlier version, to achieve a more controlled fabric.

Note: I have also released a two-skein version of the pattern, which was popularly requested. Nasha 2.0 incorporates the same improvements and knits up into a slightly larger size, suitable for both spring and early fall.

ORIGINAL INTRO
Spring is the time of renewal, blooming, new beginnings, birth and fertility and a renewed sense of energy in general. It is the promise of Mother Nature that everything can begin again. These sweet vibrations of spring are celebrated in many cultures.

Holi is celebrated in India with much zest and vigor. One of the traditions of Holi is to consume ‘Bhang’ which is a mildly intoxicating and anxiety-relieving drink to get into a festive mood. ‘Nasha’ is a Hindi word that is used to describe the state of intoxication and excitement in general and is very apt to describe the mood of Holi.

CONSTRUCTION
The construction begins at one tip with just a few cast-on stitches and is increased on both sides of a center spine until the depth of the shawl is reached.
After this, the fabric is continued in bias, by increasing on one side of the spine and decreasing on the other, resulting in a kite shape.

440 yards / 402 m per 100g / 3.5 oz in Tin Soldier colorway.

YARN REQUIREMENTS
428 yards / 392 m of fingering weight yarn.

NEEDLES USED
4 mm / US 6 circular needles, minimum length 24”/ 60 cm.

GAUGE
21 sts and 48 rows = 4”/ 10 cm in garter stitch, blocked.

NOTIONS
1 locking stitch marker, tapestry needle.
Optional: 1 (additional) locking stitch marker.

TECHNIQUES USED
Garter, eyelets, yarn over, double yarn over, k2tog, k3tog, ssk, sk2p (Marker movement for Sk2p), I-cord edging, I-cord bindoff.
