Nata Hat
The Nata Hat is a beanie featuring a folded brim, contrasting twisted stitch ribbing, and the signature Nata pattern you may recognise from my previous design—the Nata Socks. Though lightweight, this hat will keep you cosy and warm. It incorporates a variety of interesting techniques and knits up quickly, so you’ll be able to enjoy wearing it in just a few days.
SIZES: S (M, L)
TO FIT A HEAD CIRC. OF: 52-55 (56-58, 59-61) cm / 20.5 -21.75 (22-23, 23.25-24) inches
FINISHED HAT CIRC.: 50 (52.5, 55) cm / 19.25 (20.15, 21.75) inches
FINISHED HAT HEIGHT: 28 (28, 31) cm / 11 (11, 12.25) inches (adjustable)
The hat shown is a size S and the model’s head circumference is 53 cm / 21 inches.
YARN: You need 2 (2, 2) skeins of Ulysse from DeRerum Natura (185 m / 50 g; woollen spun, French mérinos d’Arles and black Portuguese merino) or approx. 250 (270, 290) m/ 275 (295, 315) yds of a similar yarn.
The sample is knitted with Ulysse from DeRerum Natura in the colourway Goéland.
I recommend using a sport weight yarn (preferably non-superwash and woolen spun) for this project. Alternatively, consider combining a lace-weight yarn like mohair with a sport or fingering weight yarn. However, keep in mind that mohair’s fuzziness can overpower the cable pattern.
Please be aware that adjusting the length of the garment or the needle size you need to achieve the stated gauge will also affect the amount of yarn needed to finish the project.
NEEDLES:
Needle A: 3.25 mm / US 3 circular needles with a cable of at least 40 cm / 15.75 inches for magic looping and/or DPNs in the same size for the crown shaping (for both stockinette and the Nata pattern)
You might need a different needle size for the cabled pattern and stockinette. But swatching in stockinette stitch should be sufficient.
Needle B: One size smaller needles for the ribbing (optional)
GAUGE:
31 sts & 12 rows = 12 x 3 cm / 4.75 x 1.25 inches over cable pattern, after washing and blocking
21 sts & 40 rows = 10 cm / 4 inches in stockinette stitch worked in the round, after washing and blocking
NOTIONS:
