Navajo Sunset Shawl
ABOUT MOSAIC KNITTING AND WHY IT’S SO EASY TO DO!
If you have never worked with color before, mosaic knitting is a very easy way to add color without having to juggle 2 colors across a row at once. With this, your tension is much easier to manage and you knit only 1 color at a time. The pattern comes from slipping stitches in the previous color as you knit the second strip of color. As you can see, it creates a dramatic feature to a piece.
Navajo Sunset wrap is is a long, shallow asymetrical triangle scarf or wrap, knit in garter stitch, slip stitch interchanging colors to create a mosaic pattern. My inspiration for this piece were a combination of the American Indian Navajo style woven fiber art and colors, combined with some of the hues of an ever changing Colorado sunset.
This statement scarf / shawl and color palette works well for men or women. It can dress up jeans and a leather jacket, as easily as a stylish wool coat, or simply draped over one shoulder 0r wrapped across shoulders or body and tied at one side.
