Navette Mittens
Why hide beautiful mitten cuffs under your sleeves, when you can wear them on top and stay even warmer!
These mittens take a different approach to a special old Scandinavian colour knitting technique, familiar to some from traditional Lapland mittens, to create the colourwork on top of the hand. This technique is very economical form of intarsia colour knitting. It’s worked in the round, using only a few meters of the colour yarn.
This technique makes it possible to have colourwork on top of the hand, without making the whole mitten too bulky!

Yarn:
Drops – Baby Merino - 50g / 175m (191yd)
Colours: Off white (nr. 02), Tangerine (nr. 56) and Bordeaux (nr. 51)
40g (45g, 45g) / 1 skein of white yarn and 20g / half a skein of the yellow and red yarn for all sizes. Please always reserve some extra yarn to make sure you don’t run out!
Gauge:
25 stitches & 36 rows = 10 cm sq. in stockinette stitch with 3mm US 2.5 needles.
Please notice that this gauge is not the same than the gauge given by Drops for this yarn. However, with a lot of testing I have come to the conclusion that to achieve the gauge given by Drops one would have to knit very loose stitches. The gauge given here is knitted with light tension, not too tight but not too loose either.
