Thought I’d write up the cardigan I made for the kid this xmas, since last time I made one of these, I made cryptic comments in the “notes” section on Ravelry about how to shape the collar, but no real explanation. Only one size, because I don’t have the energy to size it up/down.

The pattern is a mix of charts and written directions. The fronts, back & sleeves are charted. The collar, which is knit as part of the fronts, is written and uses some short rows for shaping. The pieces are worked flat and sewn together, with the exception of the back collar seam which is worked as a three-needle bind-off.

I put my kid’s preferred Magic the Gathering mana on the front. If you play different colours, you could put those on the front instead. All of the mana symbols are the same number of stitches.

The yarn used is 5 strands of unspun wool. It can take a bit of getting used to working with it, but the results are super cozy! I used approx 2.5 bales of Sheep’s Grey, 1.5 of Sheep’s Brown, and 1 of Natural White. You could use actual colours instead of doing it monochrome - I just didn’t want to invest in that much coloured roving!
