The Cowl is worked in rounds with slipped stitches.

The pattern works best with accentuated contrast colours. If the colors are not different enough, the stripes won’t look so neat. Because of this you should combine the most contrasting colours together.

The first colour would just touch the second color.
The second will be worked with the second and third colour.
The third colour will touch the second and fourth colour.
While the fourth colour will only be worked with the third colour.
The colours two, three and four should be different to each other. While the colours one and four could be nearly the same or, if you want to save some yarn, they could be the same. Of course you can knit with colour with just a little contrast, but then there will be an other effect of the stripes.

I knitted with Rowan Island Blend fine colours:
Vellum (white),
Parakeet (green),
Wedgewood (bright blue),
Lake (dark blue).

For the big cowl you need 30 g of every colour
(So there would be a little Rest for a matching hat or mittens.)

You can knit the cowl in two sizes. First one is the smaller one and fits near your neck, the second one (the one in the pictures) is big enough to put it around your neck two times. If you knit the bigger one, take care, that you have enough yarn of all colours.
You can adapt the size as you like it. Take care, that the stitchnumber is divisible by two.

If you want, you can also make the cowl bigger, by using more colours or make it smaller by using less colours. Take care about the changing of the amount of yarn, if you make differences here.

Der Cowl wird in Runden mit Hebemaschen gestrickt.

Am Schönsten wirkt das Muster bei starken Kontrasten. Sind sich die Farben zu ähnlich, gehen die Streifen unter, also kombiniere immer die beiden Farben miteinander, die sich am Stärksten voneinander unterscheiden.

Die erste Farbe kommt nur mit der zweiten Farbe in Berührung, die zweite Farbe mit der ersten und der dritten Farbe und die dritte Farbe mit der zweiten und der vierten Farbe, während die vierte Farbe dann wieder nur mit der dritten Farbe gemeinsam auftaucht.

Die Farben zwei, drei und vier sollten sich also stark voneinander abheben, während die Farben eins und 4 sehr ähnlich oder sogar gleich sein können.

Natürlich kannst du auch mit weniger kontrastreichen Farben arbeiten, dann entsteht allerdings ein ganz anderer Effekt.

Mein Cowl wurde aus der Rowan Island Blend fine in den Farben Vellum (weiß),
Parakeet (grün),
Wedgewood (hellblau),
Lake (dunkelblau) gestrickt.

Für die große Variante benötigst du von jedem Garn etwa 30 g (so bleibt noch genug für eine Mütze oder Armstulpen passend zum Cowl übrig.)

Du kannst den Cowl in zwei Varianten stricken, einmal eng am Hals anliegend und einmal so, dass du ihn zweimal um den Hals schlingen kann. Beachte, dass du für die zweite Variante mehr Garn benötigst.
Du kannst die Größe des Cowl für dich anpassen. Achte dann aber darauf, dass die Maschenanzahl durch 2 teilbar ist, damit dein Bündchenmuster aufgeht und hübsch aussieht.

Strickst du mit der korrekten Maschenprobe nach meinen Angaben wird der kleine Cowl halsnah und groß genug für einen Erwachsenen.

Du kannst ihn natürlich verlängern oder weiter oder enger machen. Du kannst auch mit mehr Farben stricken und dann einfach die Teile mit den weiteren Farben fortsetzen, so dass der Cowl höher wird. Beachte dann die veränderte Maschen- und Reihenanzahl und den veränderten Garnverbrauch!
