Q- Why is it knitted inside-out?
A- Purls are generally looser than than knits. This makes the hat floppier.
You don’t need a kilt to appreciate the absolutely gorgeous nature of this hat. This Scottish-styled over-sized Tam o’Shanter bonnet pattern is modeled after period aviator caps. It has a tall band, ear flaps, long tasseled braids, a large pom and ribbon detailing. For men, just omit the ribbon. Available in regular and large.
The materials required are:
Supplies
2 skeins of Lion-Brand Wool-Ease worsted weight yarn in the main color &
1 skein of Lion-Brand Wool-Ease worsted weight yarn in the contrast color
-or-
400 yards any other worsted weight yarn in the main color and 200 yards in the contrast
-or-
200 yards in any chunky weight yarn in the main color & 100 yards in the contrast color
40” or longer 6.5mm (US size 10.5) circular knitting needles for magic loop method or DPNs
An additional 6.5mm (US size 10.5) circular knitting needle / straights needle / or DPN
1¼ yards 7/8” - 1½” satin ribbon
2 stitch holders
Tapestry needle or a crochet hook to cinch top
Large pom pom maker or a 4”x4” piece of cardboard
Wool-Ease is an Aran weight yarn. If you use a smaller, worsted weight yarn, your project may be far too small. You will have to watch your gauge carefully. If you’re unsure, it will be best to use a heavy worsted or light bulky yarn if you’re not using Wool-Ease for your project
