Nelly
Nelly is a summer top with fitted volume.
The top is knit in fingering weight yarn with bigger size needles (4.5mm (US7)). The construction creates volume and a delicate drape in the front.
The pattern suggests two different versions. Nilla I is knit in one color and a thick-and-thin yarn, where the back is knit in garter and the front in stockinette.
Nelly II is knit with color blocking and entirely knit in garter which creates texture. This prototype is made with noil yarn (back) and a thick-and-thin yarn (front). Note! The color blocked version has a stitch gauge of 24sts in the front and therefore has less volume.
You can simply combine different yarn. Linen is perfect for its drape, as well as silk, or thinner cotton-blends.
A thick-and-thin is not crucial for the design.
If you are color blocking you can use a thicker yarn (for example sports weight) in the back with a thinner yarn in the front. Make sure you have the same stitch gauge by using the needle size you need to obtain it.
Be creative and knit yourself a summer cloud! You can wear it on its own, over a tank top or a bikini.
Size
The front has a lot of positive ease. The back is fitted.
For volume control in the front use a brooch!
