Nelson is a very cuddly and friendly lion, but don‘t get fooled – if there are monsters lurking underneath the bed, he‘ll be the first in line to chase them away! Bravely he will shake his mane and roar so loud and heartstopping that any monster will put the tail (if it has one, you never know with monsters) between the legs and flee from the kids‘ room (or the adults‘, depending on the size of the monster) for good. He‘ll then climb back to his working place on the pillow or sometimes even under the blanket to make sure his human friend will have a good night‘s sleep.

Choose any yarn you like or have left over – Nelson will be bigger or smaller depending on the yarn. Sock yarn will be fine, but I prefer the softer merino yarn. If you knit Nelson for a child, make sure the yarn is robust, washable and doesn’t pill too much. With the gauge
27 stitches x 38 rows = 10 x 10 cm = 4 x 4 inches Nelson measures approximateley 42 cm = 17 inches from head to toe.

The pattern will lead you step-by-step through the knitting, sewing and embroidering, including loads of detail photos and charts. Additionally, you’ll find instructions for the more elaborate techniques used like three-needle bind-off and alike.
As the pattern is around in German language for quite a while, I realized that even beginners tried themselves on Nelson and succeeded knitting him, but truth be told, you have more fun with Nelson if you are used to knit in the round with double pointed needles.

Wenn‘s drauf ankommt, kann Nelson richtig laut brüllen – zum Beispiel, um Monster unterm Bett einzuschüchtern! Dann schüttelt er seine Mähne und sieht ganz gefährlich aus, obwohl er eigentlich ein sehr friedlicher Vetreter seiner Art ist, der am liebsten mit kleinen Kindern spielt und kuschelt. (z. B. Strumpfgarn). Je nach Wollstärke wird Nelson größer oder kleiner. Mit der Maschenprobe 27 Maschen x 38 Reihen auf 10 x 10 Zentimeter misst Nelson von der Mähne bis zu den Fußsohlen ca. 42 cm.
