Nenya Skirt
This pattern is part one of a Tolkien inspired skirt design trilogy.
Nenya is an Elvish ring of power whose guardian and bearer is Galadriel in J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic works of fantasy, including the Lord of the Rings Trilogy and The Silmarillion. Made of mithril and set with adamant, a white stone of pure starlight, it is one of three Elvish rings of power that were never touched by Sauron’s evil, thanks to the vigilance of the Elves who kept them hidden from him, for they knew that he sought to connect with the rings and bring them under the power of The One Ring.
The movie version of Nenya is a beautifully crafted piece of jewellery that has delicate star-like points surrounding the white stone. This is what inspired me to name this skirt after Nenya.
The points of the flare can be worn to the side for an asymmetrical look, or at the back.
The skirt is knit with two strands of lace/light fingering weight linen held together. This is done primarily to achieve the ombre effect.
Fingering weight yarn, single strand, can be substituted, if you decide on a solid coloured skirt instead. The yardage would be approximately half of the yardage given for the lace weight. The best choices for substitute yarns would include linen, cotton, or silk, or blends with these fibres for optimal drape.
It is designed to be worn with 1-3 inches of negative ease, for a curve-hugging fit around the derriere. From there, it flares out gently. This elegant skirt will look fabulous on anyone who loves to wear skirts!
