Neo-Gansey Socks
A Toe-Up sock taking elements from traditional Gansey Sweater patterns. Designed for the Sock Knitters Anonymous November 2012 Texture challenge.
Please note that an error has been found at the heel instructions and some instructions may not be as clear as they could be. This was my very first written pattern and I will re-write and update it soon.
Sized to fit approx ladies 7-8 size foot medium width. Finished sock measures approx 8.5” in length (before blocking), and 7” from top of heel to top of cuff. Toe-up construction. Notes for foot and leg length modifications are included.
Any solid coloured light fingering/4ply yarn may be used, for example Zwerger Garn Opal, OnLine Supersocke etc. that has approximately 220-230 yards per 50g. Pattern is written for three colours of yarn but can be knit in two or one colour combinations also. Yarn quantities given are rounded up to the nearest 50g, but approximate used amounts are also given so that leftovers may be used if desired.
For three-coloured sock, option A:
50g Main Colour (approx 40-45g used)
50g Contrast colour 1 (approx 25-30g used)
50g Contrast Colour 2 (approx 15-20g used)
For two-coloured sock, option B:
100g main colour (approx 65-75g used)
50g Contrast Colour 2 (Approx 15-20g used)
For one-coloured sock, option C:
100g main colour (approx 80-95g used)
Needles: 2mm DPN or Circular, or needles sized to get a gauge of approx 10 stitches/13 rows per inch. For an overall larger sock, 2.25 or 2.5mm needles and a heavier weight fingering/4ply yarn may be used, but this has not been tested.
This pattern is intended for personal, not-for-profit use only.
