Neomorph
Neomorph is a fingerless mitten designed to keep your hands toasty and warm due to an inner layer that also acts as a hidden pouch to hold a hand warmer.
One morning I left Rhode Island to go to Dallas. Using a skein of the September 2024 Sock Squad by Farmers Daughter Fiber, I cast on stitches with a rough idea floating in my mind for a fingerless mitten design. Every once in a while I give myself permission to color outside the lines. To simply let creativity take its path. What I love about this is that it shuts out the “little negatives” of the inner self rambling talk (the unconscious self doubt talk). My focus is on the needles and yarn and what my hands can hopefully create.
This mitten can be scrunched up around your wrist or pulled up on your upper forearm for additional warmth. There are periodic decreases along the forearm to allow for a snug wrist fit. The Baby Cable Rib pattern provides elasticity around your hand due to the simple four row pattern creating a miniature cable by twisting two stitches. The thumb gusset has a simple design element of garter stitch. The inner lining is optional but it is time and energy worthy. Knitting the inner lining will provide you with an extra layer of warmth and creates a pouch for a hand warmer. It adds the pizazz element (the wow) to the mittens. The inner layer uses the mini skeins that accompany the monthly Sock Squad yarn. I used two different colors of the mini skeins for creative fun with roughly 50 - 60 yards per mitten. An estimate of 400 total yardage is needed for the mittens.
May your creativity flow, the little negatives leave your subconscious, and allow the joy of the day to unfold itself upon you. ❤️
