NEPTUNA
Neptuna is a striking two-coloured shawl that resembles water lilies or lotuses in full bloom. The pattern comes in two sizes, which in the suggested yarn creates one more regular sized shawl and one that is closer to a shlanket size - wonderful to wrap yourself in on a cool summer night. Neptuna is knit in separate parts that are knitted on as you go along. It is completely knit in garter stitch with short-rows, which means it is very easy to knit even for the inexperienced. The only thing slightly more complicated is the three-needle bind-off that connects the tips to the larger petals on one side.
The shawl starts with the smallest tier of petals, and then moves along the tiers that grow larger and larger. It ends with smaller in-between tips between the larger petals.
This shawl is perfect for your handspun yarn in various colours, or a fun gradient yarn, combined with a plain white or solid colour yarn. It also works brilliantly in speckled yarns! Another option is to knit each petal or each tier in a different colour. The largest petals in the larger size each use about 35g or 100 m in the suggested yarn.
Neptuna is written for a 2-ply wool yarn from the Swedish company Ullcentrum, but it would work well with any sport-weight or fingering yarn. Ullcentrum was established in 1998 and produces yarn and other wool products from only Swedish heritage sheep wool, from breeds such as finewool and Gotland sheep. The yarn is available in both natural and dyed colors and in 1-, 2- and 3-ply. To order yarn, visit Ullcentrum.com.
Yarn usage: Ullcentrum 2-ply 300m (328yds)/100g, (1) 2 skeins (200g) 6/2-0101 White, (2) 3 skeins (300g) 6/2-39 Blåmelerad.
