There are probably a million leaf lace scarf/stole patterns out there – but the majority of them are either made in two pieces and grafted in the middle or worked in two directions from a provisional cast on in the centre. This scarf was designed to avoid just that.

Starting with a provisional cast on, the length of the scarf including one edge is knit at one go. Stitches from the provisional cast on are then picked up to just knit the other edge. No seaming or grafting in the middle, no leaves running in the opposite direction. The pattern can easily be adapted to make a stole or wrap, just by increasing the number of lace repeats. You can either make this a one-skein project or use more yarn to make a larger wrap.

Note - The part of the chart shaded light pink marks the repeats. To make a wider scarf, cast on multiples of 12 for the leaves and add 14 stitches for the edges.

Tip to entirely use up a skein of yarn - After the provisional cast on and a few rows into the pattern, you can use the other end of the yarn to pick up stitches from the provisional cast on and finish off the cast on edge first. This will allow you to use the remaining yarn to knit the body of the scarf and the other edge.
