ABOUT THE PATTERN
All of a sudden 2019 became the year for many of my friends to start having babies! I designed this blanket for my best friend’s adorable little girl who was born that summer. The feedback that I received? The new mama loves this blanket, because it does not have gaps in the fabric, like a lot of hand knit and crochet blankets do. This made it the perfect blanket for playing on the floor and for walks in the stroller.
This is a quick, addicting knit that is perfect gift knitting. It is not a boring knit, as every other row is changing and requires some attention. Once you’ve begun knitting part of the diamond section, you will find that it is quite easy to read your knitting, and the repeat is fairly easy to memorize. Just remember to pay attention to the pattern so you form diamonds and not just straight lines! This pattern does use cabling, but it is simple to modify to knit without a cable needle (this information is included in a linked tutorial!).
It is easy to modify this pattern for any weight of yarn and to modify the width and length (instructions are included in the pattern for modifying the dimensions of the blanket). It is written for a bulky weight yarn, which creates a dense, cozy blanket. Initially designed as a baby blanket, this blanket is sized from security blanket to throw blanket. This design will look beautiful in a solid, tonal, speckled, or faded color scheme. If you would like a fabric with more drape, I recommend increasing your needle size for a looser gauge, but this will cause your diamonds to not “pop” as much.
The pattern PDF includes both written and charted instructions, and it is easy to print either the written or the charted instructions so you don’t need to waste paper and ink!
