You need to be familiar with the basic stitches used in amigurumis (chains, single crochet (US)/double crochet (UK), slip stitches, increases, invisible decreases, and working in the front loop only; there are photo-tutorials to learn how to invisible decrease, and how to work in the front loop only with both right- and left-handed versions, if you need them), and with sewing parts.

Yarn and hooks: You can use any yarn weight you prefer, you only have to choose a suitable hook so you can crochet tight enough so the stuffing does not show.
