The diagonal stripes on this sweater front are created by knitting the garment pieces on the bias. The knitting is simply stockinette stripes of 12 rows each. There is nothing difficult about the shaping as long as you work slowly and keep careful track. A little bonus is that the bias knitting hangs in a very flattering way.
YARN, GAUGE AND MACHINE
Worsted weight yarn on a bulky machine at stitch size 5 produces 4 stitches/6 rows per inch. Some mid-gauge machines can get the gauge at a larger stitch size. “I Love This Yarn” was used for the sample which was knitted on a bulky machine without a ribber. The little bit of ribbing is easy to hand manipulate so hobby machines can make this design without trouble. Bond knitters will not be able to manipulate stitch size to the degree that those with stitch dials can but the design should come out quite well even so using 1 size smaller of key-plate to knit the bands.
