I designed the New York: A Guy’s Wool Hat and the matching scarf for my son as a Christmas that first year when I moved to the farm in New York. He still lives in L.A., and I wanted him to have a warm hat and scarf he could udse here while he visited with us, but something that might also work for colder nights in L.A.

My son is a good looking guy with good taste and wanted the pieces I made for him to look great in the city as well as the country. I think I hit the mark with this set in luscious Suri Merino wool. Neither piece is too large or bulky; they are nice enough to wear with a suit and nice winter coat if needed, but casual and dressed down enough to work great with jeans and a light jacket.

Many people have used this pattern to make hats for both men and women, even though I designed it with my son in mind.

I even include a copy of my recipe for Fireflys Chip Chip Cookies because I made a batch of them to give him along with his hat and scarf. If you make this set for a guy you love, I hope you will include a batch of cookies as well because it would be great if you could see the kind of warm grin of appreciation I got to see when my son opened his gift.
