Are you a knitter who takes pride in how neat the reverse side of your project looks? Well, your time has come: This hat is designed to look fabulous on both sides and can be worn inside out – which is a very fashionable thing these days! Also, when using a very special, beautiful sparkly yarn for stranding, the reverse side may actually be the shinier one. I found both yarns I used for this hat (Tosh Merino Light and Beaded Silk Sequins Light) at the Marketplace at Vogue Knitting Live in New York City, and they looked so beautiful together that I felt the urge to make this hat immediately. Also, my class with knitwear designer Josh Bennett (who started the inverse fair-isle trend) really sparked some inspiration – thanks a lot!

It starts with a provisional cast-on so the lower border will be doubled and keep your ears warm – because, after all, that’s what hats are for, even the shiny kind! I have put up an instructional video for this technique. If you have never worked with two colors, this hat is a perfect little project to get started: The pattern repeats are small and easy to memorize, no long strands are carried, there is no purling involved and it is a small project that will not drag on forever. Treat yourself to a special yarn to do the colorwork and you will feel rewarded pretty soon!

Als Strickerinnen sind wir immer stolz, wenn die linke Seite unserer Stücke genauso hübsch aussieht wie die rechte Seite – stimmt’s? Mit dieser Mütze bekommt sie endlich ihren großen Auftritt! Das Muster ist so angelegt, dass beide Seiten schön aussehen und sich die Mütze, (wenn man denn mag!) auch linksherum tragen lässt. Das besondere Seidengarn, in das winzige Glasperlen und Pailletten eingesponnen sind, kommt auf beiden Seiten richtig schön zur Geltung. Die Garne für diese Mütze habe ich auf der Strickerinnen-konferenz „Vogue Knitting Live“ in New York gefunden. Sie sahen so toll zusammen aus, dass ich gleich damit los stricken musste. Ich hoffe, der Funke (engl. „Spark“) springt über!

Zur Stricktechnik: Die Mütze beginnt mit einem provisorischen Häkelanschlag, damit sie an den Ohren doppelt liegt und gut wärmt (denn dafür sind Mützen ja schließlich da!) Zu dieser Technik gibt es ein Anleitungsvideo hier. Selbst wer noch nie zweifarbig gestrickt hat, kann sich ruhig an diese Mütze wagen, sie ist das perfekte Übungsstück: Nur rechte Maschen, ein kleinteiliges Muster, bei dem die Farbwechsel schnell erfolgen und sich gut merken lassen. Getüdel mit zu langen Spannfäden gibt es nicht. Ich lege einfach beide Farben über Kreuz über den Zeigefinger und stricke immer die Farbe, die ich gerade brauche. Logisch, einfach, und längst nicht so kompliziert wie Zöpfe – und das Ergebnis lässt alle Mühen vergessen!
