These dolls are inspired by the beautiful valley of my childhood in the South Island of New Zealand, also by Waldorf peg dolls. The designing of the fern frond hat was especially a labor of love and took MANY attempts to get right! But after many years I did it and they stand independently.

These adorable, seamless dolls are a quick knit. They are knit in the round on double pointed needles from bottom to top, with clever finishing techniques, to help make them more knitter friendly.

Because gauge isn’t a worry it is a great scrappy project. If you are a tight knitter I recommend using sport or fingering weight yarn.
My preference is worsted as it makes the dolls nice and sturdy and allows them to stand independently.

Supplies Needed:
Yarn: You will use 6 yards/5.5 meters or less of each color per doll in worsted weight.
Needles: One set of double-pointed needles in size US 2 (2.75mm), or size to obtain gauge.
12mm wooden bead: You will need one per doll. I use light and dark wood for a diversity of dolls.
Pipe cleaner: You will need one pipe cleaner per doll.
