The New Zealand pullover has a stocking stitch body and a slightly volcano-shaped (named for Mt. Rangitoto in NZ) garter-stitch yoke with marvelous neck-shaping within the fabric. The New Zealand Sweater is made almost entirely on circular needles, and the only purled rows are confined to the gentle triangular points fore and aft.

Work the New Zealand Sweater in any weight wool that suits you. The pattern was made in three varying weights:

1. Knitted in SHEEPSDOWN II: 40” around, 8 3.5 oz skeins.
2. Knitted in SHETLAND WOOL: 37” around, took 10 1 oz skeins (But the yardage in each skein has decreased by 40 yds!)
3. Knitted in OATMEAL SHEEEPSWOOL: 42” around, 7 skeins.

This is a very becoming sweater for all ages, sexes and sizes.

Meg Swansen suggests casting off the neck using the sewn cast-off to make it elastic enough to fit comfortably over the head.
