This soft and sweet newborn cardigan/hoodie is a quick knit using only Garter stitch. It is knit bottom up on the back and then without binding off, it is continued down the front on both sides – all in one piece using two skeins/balls of yarn. The sleeves are knit flat from the shoulders to the cuffs, and then the sweater is seamed down each side from sleeve cuff to the lower edge of the sweater. The hood is knit from the neckline and finished by weaving together at the top. Finally, a Garter border is added up the right front, around the hood and down the left front before adding a button loop or ties. This is a great project for using up stash yarn. It will take approximately 160 yds of a main color and up to 120 yds of one or more contrasting colors. The knitter can create any striping recipe desired. It is easiest to change colorways at the armholes to know where to begin and end the sleeve stitches later on. Knit it for a baby girl, baby boy or perhaps use colorways that match the parents’ favorite sports team!

Note - The sleeve tapering decreases along the sleeve edges take place on both the RS and WS but all decreases will slant toward the seam.
