Designed for a newborn.

I made this hat because I want to celebrate the birth of my son who is my rainbow baby. A rainbow baby is the rainbow that comes after the storm of having lost a baby – we lost our first child in early pregnancy over a year ago. When we got pregnant with our son we were overjoyed – truly a rainbow!

I typed this pattern up quickly, so if you catch an error or need clarification please contact me through Ravelry and I’ll do my best to fix it ASAP. Thank you!

The pattern is pretty simple and you can mess with it as you see fit. I’ll list recommendations of the yarn but as long as you adjust the hook for the yarn and do a little measuring the size should work out. Now, I used a cotton blend and keep in mind that cotton is not very stretchy. The more cotton in the blend, the less stretch, I really like a cotton acrylic blend for this reason.

Yarn:
Five colors: purple, blue, green, yellow, and red yarn. You don’t need much of each color.
Size of yarn is worsted weight yarn, also known as a double knit (DK) or light (size 3) yarn.
As long as the yarn is this size and these colors you can use the hook listed below and get the correct sizing.
For reference:
I used Plymoth Yarn’s Jeannee (https://www.plymouthyarn.com/yarn/jeannee-worsted-item-720) which is a worsted weight yarn that is 51% cotton and 49% acrylic for the red, yellow, green and blue.
I didn’t have a purple in this yarn style so I got KnitPicks CotLin (https://www.knitpicks.com/yarns/CotLin_DK_Yarn__D5420162....) which is a 70% cotton and 40% linen – this yarn did not have a little of give so if you use this you might want to make the hat a little bigger by added another round of increase.

Tools:
G6/4.0mm hook
Yarn needle to sew in the ends.
