Newton's Cradle
Newton’s Cradle is a semi-circle, top-down shawl, knit mostly in stockinette, built for
mini skeins. It features alternating bands of color that radiate from the center of the back to pools
of color on the outer edge. The pattern assumes a knowledge of short rows, wrap and turn, and
yarn overs to increase.
Materials:
-750 yards of fingering weight for the main color (MC)
-95 yards each of five contrasting colors (CC) also in fingering weight. This pattern could
be worked in any number of colors—a single contrasting color would take about 475 total.
-Size US 5 needles
-32” cable or larger
-3 stitch markers
Gauge:
13 rows tall by 10 stitches wide in a 2” square, blocked
Finished Size:
67” wingspan, 29” deep at the center of the back
