Newts: Mama and Baby
These crocheted newts began with a picture from my science book.
Seriously.
I was in a ‘mood’ for Amigurumi(knitted or crocheted stuffed animals) for about a week. I was looking for an animal to design a pattern for and I came across a picture for an Eastern Newt. My mom is not a fan, but everyone else seems to be. Most of my family, extended even, loves the newts. I hope it can become a favorite with your family too.
The different sizes, small, medium, and large, can be made pretty much with the same pattern with a few small changes.
To make the small newt, use the baby newt pattern and use number ten crochet thread and a 1.9 mm crochet hook. You will also need two beads for eyes.
Gauge is not essential for this project, but keep it tight.
You will need:
3.75 mm crochet hook(or 1.9 mm for small)
Worsted weight cotton yarn(or No. 10 crochet thread for small)
A note on the yarn: I used Orange for Boy newts and Red for Girl newts.
