The Ngahuru Mitts were designed to match the Ngahuru Cowl (one of my previous designs). Ngahuru means Autumn or harvest time in Maori, one of the languages spoken in New Zealand.

These mitts are perfect for the Autumn season in that they are able to keep your hands warm, while maintaining good movement (as you would need during a harvest!)

This project is a great project for those who are wanting to challenge themselves by working in the round, and is worked up using knitting and purling, and slanting increases. It also has just enough detail for more experienced knitters interested.

Techniques:

k = Knit
p = Purl
m1r = make one stitch right
m1l = make one left
slm = slip marker
ssk = slip, slip, knit
k2tog = knit two stitches together
p2tog = purl two stitches together
BO = bind off
