My husband Nicholas doesn’t wear ties, but occasionally he needs to spiff up, say for a wedding, so he came to me for help. To keep my interest in the knitting, I found a lovely slip-stitch pattern that adds just the right amount of texture and depth. Of course this is a fully-fashioned necktie, not a teensy scarf, with a keeper and everything.

• Shibui Staccato* (Fingering: 70% merino, 30% silk; 191 yds / 175 m per 50 g / 1.76 oz skein), color: Suit, 1 skein or approx. 180 yds fingering weight yarn
• US1 set of 4 DPNs or size to achieve gauge
• Waste yarn, tapestry needle

Sadly Shibui Staccato has been discontinued; however, there are other merino/silk blend fingering weight yarns out there. 100% wool yarn will give you a crisp and slightly rugged look, while a silk blend provides a luxurious gleam—you’ve got lots of delicious options.
