Niello
Niello is the art or process of decorating metal with incised designs filled with niello, a black compound of sulphur with silver, lead, or copper, etc.
The compound is added to the surface of the metal, then fired up until it melts, and flows into the engraved lines in the metal. It hardens and blackens when cool, and the niello on the flat surface is polished off to show the filled lines in black, contrasting with the polished metal (usually silver) around it.
My Niello is a triangular shawl in garter stitch stripes and garter stitch mosaic. I have used the colours black and silver to symbolise the art of Niello on silver work.
