Cardigan is worked in one piece from lower edge up to armholes. Then Fronts and Back are worked separately up to the shoulders. Use spaces between stitches along Right Front as buttonholes.

Pattern can be adapted for boys or girls (reverse button placement).

Ed. notes:
The picture is accurate: there is very little ease. There is also no shaping in the body. Rather than use a pure chest measurement use the thickest part of the torso (for many little kids that is the belly), and consider going up a size for the width while keeping the length for a chubby baby. The pattern is simple enough to modify.
