Nine Patch is a fun intarsia cardigan, covered in quilt inspired checks - it’s perfect for playing with color or using leftover yarn. You get to choose whether you knit it with sleeves or as a vest - instructions for both are included. This pattern is a rebooted version of a quilt jacket Julie knit in 1995, so it’s full of nostalgia - just like a quilt should be. Use scrap materials from old projects and get swept away in memories of past patterns. Or maybe you opt to play with gradient yarn like Julie did with the vest version. Whatever you do, have fun with it and make it your own! That’s what this sweater is all about.

The pattern begins as Cocoknits Method with the creation of an upper back, shoulders, and fronts - but the sleeves are picked up and knitted down after the body is complete. This way you can decide if you want to continue with sleeves or finish the armholes with ribbing to make a vest. Once the preferred body length is reached, the body stitches are held, then stitches are picked up around the neckline and along the fronts, and a hem is knitted and stitched down all around.
