Designed by Carolyn Hodges for the 2023 Sierra Nevada Yarn Crawl.

In honor of the Foothill Indians and their basketry skills, this colorful mosaic, slipped stitch pattern reminds us of our cultural heritage in Northern California.

SIZE: Adult

YARN: Berroco Ultra Alpaca (worsted weight yarn)
Main Color (MC) 100 yds
Contrast Color (CC) 100 yds

NEEDLES: Size 4 (16” circular) and size 5 (16”
circular and DPN)

GAUGE: 20 sts and 34 rows = 4 inches on slipped
stitches chart after blocking.

NOTIONS: Stitch marker, tapestry needle

PATTERN NOTES:

  1. You will have enough yarn to make two hats or a hat and a cowl if you switch MC and CC on each item.
  2. Switch to DPNs as necessary when working the crown of the hat or use longer circular needle for Magic Loop.
  3. Placing a stitch marker between chart patterns is helpful.
